AstraSync: an Evolution in Blackberry syncing via Activesync
July 23rd, 2008 by Jorge Ledesma
AstraSync from Mailsite is almost here; this application is truly the next evolutionary step in Blackberry sync technology via ActiveSync. What AstraSync does is basically handle your connection via MS Exchange 2007 or Mailsite’s Fusion server client to sync natively with your blackberry calendar, contacts, and email via Direct Push technology. I’ve been beta testing this application for the last few weeks and my experience has been wonderful, actually liberating, its great to have my Outlook 2007 contacts, calendar, and email all synced to my Blackberry without a hiccup. Gone are the days of buggy SyncML clients often times duplicating or triplicating your PIM databases and putting your whole world upside down for a few hours (and I know some of you out there know exactly what I mean
) but with AstraSync everything is easy; put in your basic information eg. server, username, password, domain and that’s all, hit sync and your up and going and the rest is handled behind the scenes. Astrasync will sync instantly as soon as a change is made in Outlook 2007 or Exchange 2007(Exchange 2003 is not supported at this time but MailSite is making every effort to support it in a future release), its blazing fast, I literally added a calendar event on my Blackberry 8310 and withing 10 seconds my Outlook 2007 Calendar was updated as well as my Exchange 2007 Calendar. I imported about 350 contacts in a few minutes 3-4 minutes tops. Now Blackberry users that don’t need to have a BES account or even a BIS account to be able to sync to Exchange. AstraSync will truly amaze when its released in the next upcoming weeks around August, the launch was suppose to come in July but Beta testing is still going on to refine some minor details, as you may understand the ramifications of this upcoming release are enormous and Mailsite wants to make sure everything is great, I want to give a special thanks to Dave Ryder and AmitPatel
for being so helpful with all my basic questions and support issues.
My personal setup: I can personally attest to the user experience with Exchangemymail this company’s service is outstanding with a capital “O”, there support is in the premiere category if such a category exists, I also want to thank Antonio Oviedo for his outstanding support service with my Exchange 2007 account by making sure everything was working flawlessly.
So folks, keep your RSS readers updated because AstraSync from Mailsite is coming soon.

New Viigo, who else is disappointed ? Say hello to NewsGator Go for Blackberry
July 2nd, 2008 by Jorge Ledesma
Hello guys, I just deleted the new Viigo, I got tired of the huge memory overkill on my 8310, it was just sucking way too much memory, it was crazy, so I setup shop with NewsGator Go for Blackberry, which I had paid for a long time ago and now its free and it looks great guys, if you want another alternative to Viigo do checkout NewsGator Go, its got a clean interface and the shortcuts are awesome, don’t get me wrong Viigo is great and super super cool but just know you have options, and that’s what great about the blackberry platform, we have tons of options and more and more as the days go by, here is the url for your perusal http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/NewsGatorGo/Default.aspx and of course a few pics for your enjoyment
PS: For those wondering what kind of icon is that camera, that’s berryannoying, its an app that mutes the shutter on the bb camera and yes I do have Msn on my berry, lol, not the new version of WLM but mine works flawlessly alongside Gtalk

Have you ever wanted to save an email to the memo pad and didn’t have a fancy 3rd party application to do it, well guess what now you can, Atomichelix.com has released Notify! for BlackBerry’. Its a simple application very small less than 10k that from the email list view or the actual email itself add a function the regular menu “save to memopad”, simply click here and voila the memo is added to your memos, isn’t that great.
Congrats to Atomichelix

MyPoynt beta Updated to version 0.8.0

Go to m.mypoynt.com on your bb to get the newest version
Here is what the developer said in Blackberryforums.com
_________________________________________________________________
Hi everyone!
Thanks to all the feedback we received, I dropped in a couple more features:
1. Ability to switch between km and mi - Click the menu button and click options and settings.
2. Change the font size of list items - ” ”
3. Add listings to your address book - Click on the listing and click add to address book
4. Fixed a few bugs here and there, you probably won’t notice ![]()
5. Sorry no other mapping options yet, but we’re working on it!
6. Pressing end now backgrounds the app instead of turning it off so you don’t lose your searches when you want to do other blackberry tasks.
Until our mobile versioning system is in place, automatic updates are turned off so you can manually go to m.mypoynt.com and re-download it. Automatic updates will work as soon as we turn that feature on from our end.
Also your browser might have a problem with caching. If when you click on the link it says the version is 0.7.8, hit refresh and it will update to 0.8.0.
For all new users this won’t be an issue. I hope you’re all enjoying the app!

Mypoynt, the evolution of blackberry searches combined with an all time favorite - Movies and Directions
June 13th, 2008 by Jorge Ledesma
Once upon a time we had two notable applications like Berry411 and InfoSpace Find It that in their time we’re pretty good but as they say technology, technology, technology is always improving, the aforementioned applications are the dinosaurs of that era, now we have a new kid on the block and this kid is packing a “mean punch” its called MyPoynt, noticed the play on letters, I thought it was original, here’s a shot of how it looks on my Dimension L-theme in OS 4.5 Guys this application is FREEEEEEEEE
Check out the announcement page here: http://mypoynt.com/getpoynt/blackberry.cfm
Notice the cool icon, pretty nice, now when we first click the icon this is the first screen
then this is the 2nd screen, eye candy galore.
Above are all the main icons on Mypoynt notice the Yellow Pages, Movies, and yes Directions, its all very well laid out, great icons I reiterate one more time and let’s face it, it looks great. Notice the green icon on the top right, this dot represents your connected GPS location in Mypoynt, pretty cool, if the dot is red it means it still has not found your location.
Here we’ll type something, Winn Dixie is a Florida supermarket chain, just type your searh in that line and click the trackball and that’s the image you’ll see.
You’ll get your result and checkout the menu corresponding to that result you can call, map route, map listing, map all, SEARCH FROM HERE - this is super awesome and so on. When you Map List it the search, guess what mapping application opens, BB Maps, isn’t that innovative, I think its awesome, why give us another mediocre built in map application when we have BB Maps
Then if you’re familiar with BB Maps you know you have a multitude of options
Here is the movie icon, once you click you’ll see this and just follow along to get all your pertinent information and yes even buy your movie tickets through MyPoynt, pretty darn cool and very efficient.
Then finally the Direction icon
I give this application two thumbs up because it deserve this and more, I spoke to the yesterday and they mentioned that their search speed will increase soon, but guys, their search speed is already faster than anything out there eg. Windows Live Search, Yahoo Go 3.0 and others, this application is by far the fastest. So point your blackberry browser to http://m.mypoynt.com/ and go find things, I’m sure you won’t regret.

bbChecklist by Berrylogic.com the best List Maker for Blackberries
June 8th, 2008 by Jorge Ledesma
I found this application in Pinstack and I am so pleased, I’ve been searching for an application like this for years, especially to incorporate some of list for Gtd and I’m happy to report that this application so far has met all my expectations. Folks, this is as plain vanilla as they come but simplicity is the key concept here, mind you this application is still in Beta but its pretty darn good as it is right now, I read the developer will continue to add simple updates but wants to keep this as simple as possible, so those of you wanting some serious listing capabilities ala project management will be disappointed but those of you who want something efficient, simple, and pretty looking will be very happy with this tiny jewel.
For this application has a two functions, 1. it will handle some of Gtd List and 2. it will store some basic Lists, like for example “Movies to Watch” or “Groceries”
Here is the list view, very nice with clean lines and nice icons
Here is another shot of this application once I click into this list
Notice how you can add divider, you click the menu key and it says “new divider” then position it where you want, I like this feature because it gives some kind of category management within a list like you can see above. Also notice the note icon next to my entry “juice” once you click there it shows you the inside of the task or item or events or todo or whatever you want to call them.
Pretty basic and pretty darn cool I think, I particulary impressed with ,B. Pursley, the developer of this application as well “Add to Calendar” also an amazing application (I’ll be writing another review for latter sometime soon) So far this application is all the B. Pursley intended it to be a simple checklist for the blackberry and let me tell you this application is going to fill a HUGE void that fellow blackberrier are wanting and didn’t have until now, I give this application two enthusiastic thumbs up. Any questions don’t hesitate to email me at blackberrygtd@gmail.com
